• Certifying Copies: While notaries in New York are generally not allowed to certify copies of documents, there are specific instances where they can certify that a copy is true and accurate.

• Completing Jurats:: This involves witnessing the signing of a document where the signer also swears or affirms the truth of its contents, often used in affidavits.

HOW TO BECOME A NOTARY IN NY STATE? (WE COVER MULTIPLE STATES IN THE USA)

To become a Notary Public in New York State (NYS), you need to meet certain requirements and follow specific steps to obtain your commission. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to become NYS Notary.

Meet the Eligibility Requirements:

1. Be at least 18 years old.

2. Be a resident of New York State or have an office or place of business in New York State.
3. Have no felony convictions (or have had rights restored if convicted).

4. Complete an Application:

5. Obtain the Notary Public Application form from the New York State Department of State or download it from their website.
6. Fill out the application completely and accurately.

7. Take the Notary Public Examination:

8. Schedule and take the Notary Public Examination. The exam is typically a multiple-choice test that covers New York's Notary Public License Law, general notarial duties, and other relevant legal concepts.
9. Study the Notary Public License Law to prepare for the exam. You can find study guides online or attend prep courses offered by various institutions.
